dollars and cents

At work they've been trying to get us to cross sell our members new products or services. Working at a financial institution has its perks, and with rates as they are (because of the current financial situation) people can get some good deals on loans and other services. Assuming that they can actually pay for it. For some odd reason I feel like a scum bag for asking people if they want to take out more credit, or add other things to their accounts. Hypothetically, we're supposed to "analyze the need" of each member and then recommend an appropriate service that would improve their lives. But people can't pay for anything right now. Every one's account is in the red, and we've never repossessed so many cars as long as I've worked here. Everyday I have to listen to terrible stories about how people can't pay their bills or rent, and I'm supposed to ask them if they want to sign up for a debit card?! Are you serious? My job has major flaws, and the executive management often relies more on statistical analysis rather than common sense.
